Cathead Cottage 2005 Info

It's nearly half-past February, so we are finally planning what to do with our family cottage at Cathead Bay for 2005!

We've reserved Memorial Day weekend for the annual Corbett get-together, and June 11-18th for the parties that will no doubt commence after Nora's high school graduation and Steve's 21st birthday.

And one or two weeks will be reserved in August prior to Nora's departure for college and Leah's welcoming home.

But for the other weeks: we're open to friends sharing our space (for a small fee, of course, to help defray college costs).

Our living room

Our Lake Michigan beach cottage sits on the pristine sands of Cathead Bay, near the tip of the Leelanau Peninsula. We are the next to last house on a 1.7 mile dead end private road, and only two hundred feet away from nearly a mile of state-owned shoreline and hundreds of acres of untouched sand dunes. Northport is the nearest village; a fifteen minute drive away.

Our 110 feet of private sugar sand beach affords great swimming in clear water. Sit on our deck and watch the freighters and sailboats pass between our beach and South Fox Island, seventeen miles to the northwest. Enjoy spectacular multi-colored sunsets. And later, as darkness falls, look up at the sky and notice the thousands of stars illuminating the night.

The "Loft" above our garage and the stairway to it.
(The garage will be locked, as we store our personal stuff there when guests come).

We have three bedrooms and two full bathrooms. We also have a laundry area equipped with a washer and dryer, and a water softener. For your convenience we have a television, DVD Player, VCR, and microwave oven, as well as a fully equipped kitchen. (Sorry, no dishwasher).

Our neighbors are our friends, and out of respect for them, we would like to limit our guests to individual families of six members or less, though we could sleep seven in special situations. We do not allow large gatherings, such as family reunions. No campers are allowed to be set up in the driveway, and we would like to know if you will have more than 3 cars during your stay.

Master Bedroom
(It is level; the cameraman was off kilter!)

You will need to bring linen, food, large plastic trash bags, charcoal, toilet paper and any other personal items. Also, plan to bring bath towels, kitchen towels, beach towels and warm clothing, as the nights can get cool. The cottage is furnished with:

1 Queen bed, in master bedroom
1 Double bed in second bedroom
3 Twin beds. One is in second bedroom as a top bunk; the other two are as bunk beds in the third bedroom.

Third Bedroom with bunk beds.

Our kitchen is efficient, yet adequate.

Dining Area with Kitchen to left. While dining you can often see the sunsets through the sliding glass door.

Our cottage telephone has been left on for your convenience. Cell phone service is not available. Please note that to make long distance calls you will need a phone card or the access number of your own carrier. Local calls are free of charge; long distance is at your expense.

Please note that we do not allow smoking, or pets, or firearms.

Adequate seating for all the folks on the deck

Our screened porch provides relief from the hot sun, while providing a great place to eat a sandwich while listening to the wind and the waves!

Imagine yourself sitting on the swing awaiting the sunset!

Wow! I was just searching the internet for possible places to rent in leelanau next summer to hang out at for a week after my wedding and somehow I came across the Holden-Corbett family website, and I thought--
"as in, Charlie Holden-Corbett from high school?!"
Hey! Its Ginger Hagan, and a) how the heck are you?! and b)is your family's cottage at all available for rent next summer?! Cathead By is about my favorite place on the penninsula.

I don't know who in the Holden-Corbett clan receives this message, but could you please pass a big hello on to Charlie?

Thanks a million!

Ginger! Wow! This is crazy. It's good to hear from you!

Things are going well out here in Cali. I'm looking forward to coming back to the Midwest for a nice vacation this fall though.

I have no idea if you'll ever read this, but you can e-mail my dad about availability for next summer at the cottage: wacorbett@charter.net

Congratulations on the Wedding!
